Smartphone QR Code and Barcode Scanning in Salesforce
Unaric Equipment Track brings reliable, scalable equipment tagging to Salesforce with built-in QR code generation, barcode support, and mobile scanning - ensuring accurate, on-the-go asset tracking from day one.
Smartphone Scanning in Salesforce
Consistent, accurate scanning depends on a few key details.
Your mobile device’s camera must be able to read the smallest label in use, so always test with the lowest-resolution phone in your team.
Maintain a proper “quiet zone” around all barcodes and QR codes - 1/4 inch for barcodes and 4.5 modules for QR codes - to ensure reliable scanning. Unaric's default QR code size is optimized for current mobile devices, minimizing errors in the field. Use high-quality labels and follow printing guidelines to guarantee reliable operation at scale.
Tag Every Asset
Unaric Equipment Track requires each piece of equipment to have a unique, machine-readable identifier.
You can choose from several tagging methods depending on your existing systems and workflows. Options include Unaric-generated QR codes, manufacturer barcodes, or your organization’s asset tags. Each method ensures accurate linking of physical equipment to its digital record in the system.
No duplicates are allowed, which maintains data integrity across your fleet. Unaric’s flexibility supports hybrid approaches, letting you mix QR codes and barcodes as needed.
QR Code Integration
Every equipment record in Unaric automatically receives a unique QR code. You can print these codes along with details like model, serial number, and manufacturer using built-in label generation tools. Labels are formatted to print on Avery 5162 stock and are readable by nearly all modern smartphones.
QR codes are linked directly to the equipment record in Salesforce and support up to six custom, human-readable fields. You can also create custom labels using third-party software like Brother P-Touch when more advanced formatting is needed.
Use Existing Barcodes
If your equipment already has barcodes - such as manufacturer serial numbers or pre-printed asset tags - Unaric can incorporate them during data import. Populate the Equipment Tag field with barcode values to establish unique identifiers. This method supports immediate deployment with existing assets and allows for durable, tamper-resistant labels suitable for harsh environments.
Just ensure each barcode is unique and large enough to be scanned reliably, especially on devices with lower-resolution cameras.
