Challenge

Moving upmarket means moving into Salesforce

GoCardless exists to take the stress out of getting paid. With over 100,000 customers globally and a product built around the predictability and control of bank-to-bank payments, the company had already established itself as a leader in recurring payments. But as it looked to grow upmarket and serve larger, more complex businesses, one challenge became clear: the platforms those businesses run on had changed.

Salesforce is a critical environment for enterprise customers. And Salesforce, as Tom Metcalfe, Director of Partnerships at GoCardless, describes it, is not a space you can navigate alone. "Salesforce is a massive ecosystem with hundreds of partners globally. We needed a partner we could go in with that had the credibility and the understanding of the ecosystem, so we weren't going in blind."

The missing piece for Salesforce customers

For Salesforce customers themselves, the problem was equally real. Payments either lived outside Salesforce entirely, disconnected from the CRM data and workflows that teams relied on every day, or they depended on file-based legacy processes that were manual, slow, and difficult to maintain. Neither approach scaled. Neither gave businesses the automation, visibility, or payment flexibility their customers expected.

What was missing was a way to bring best-in-class payment technology directly into Salesforce, without the complexity of building and maintaining it from scratch.

Solution

Unaric has Deep Salesforce knowledge, native by design

Unaric and GoCardless have been working together since 2016, combining two distinct areas of expertise into a single, seamless solution for Salesforce customers.

Unaric's focus has always been on unlocking more value from Salesforce. Nick Chaffe, Founder of Unaric Payments, explains the belief at the core of the business: "If you're investing in Salesforce as your system of record, payments should be part of that value proposition. They should be embedded into business journeys, offering great experiences for customers." Unaric builds and maintains the infrastructure that makes that possible, handling the compliance, security, scalability, and Salesforce-native architecture that customers need but shouldn't have to think about.

The payment rails behind the scenes

GoCardless brings the payment rails. Covering bank-to-bank payment schemes across the UK, Europe, Australia, and North America, including Bacs, SEPA, BECS, and ACH, GoCardless provides the depth of payment capability and the ongoing product innovation that Salesforce customers benefit from through the integration. That includes newer capabilities like Pay by Bank, which has seen 140% growth in adoption among Unaric customers in the last six months alone.

Together, they give Salesforce customers something that would be difficult and costly to replicate independently: a fully embedded, fully maintained, best-in-class payments operation inside Salesforce, with no file-based processes, no siloed systems, and no ongoing build cost.

A partnership built at every level

The depth of the partnership reflects in how it is structured. Unaric built and maintains GoCardless's own Salesforce AppExchange integration. The two companies work across every level, with customer success, sales, and development teams in regular contact. Matt Jewell, Partner Account Manager at GoCardless, describes it simply: "It's not just two logos on a page. We're both deeply integrated, technically and as people. Our teams work extremely closely together, from onboarding new customers all the way through to supporting them as they grow."

For GoCardless customers, that integration means access to real Salesforce expertise at every stage of their journey. For Unaric customers, it means access to a payment provider that is committed to innovation and aligned on delivering a frictionless experience.

Results

Built over ten years, proven every month

After ten years of working together, the partnership has scale, trust, and a track record that speaks for itself.

Nearly $1 billion in GoCardless payments flows through the Unaric Salesforce integration every year. Customers span multiple industries and geographies, processing everything from subscription billing and recurring direct debits to instant bank payments, all from within their Salesforce environment.

What Salesforce customers gain

For the businesses using it, the impact is consistent. Finance teams gain real-time visibility of payment data without leaving Salesforce, enabling automation, faster reconciliation, and better decisions. Manual processes are eliminated. Payment success rates improve. And because Unaric maintains the integration, customers benefit from GoCardless product innovations automatically, without reinvesting in development each time.

Crucially, the solution scales without adding operational cost. Businesses processing thousands of transactions monthly run lean finance teams precisely because the infrastructure handles the complexity for them.

Meeting merchants where they want to be met

Tom Metcalfe reflects on what the partnership ultimately represents: "The heart of it is meeting merchants where they want to be met. Salesforce integrates lots of different functionality to allow people to run their business effectively. Payments are a part of that. Unaric helped us solve that. GoCardless and Unaric are a large part of how we solve Salesforce merchant needs."

Nick Chaffe looks at it from the other side: "If you choose Salesforce as your system of record, payment should be part of that value proposition. Everything we do is centred around those customers interacting with payments and those users within Salesforce delivering a great experience. That's what this partnership is for."
